Training

It is stated, ” The hardest part of training  is STARTING.”

One of the most important questions you can ask yourself is

WHY Do I Want To Train?

  1. I want to learn how to protect my self and/or my family.

  2. I want to learn a traditional street effective self defense and not sport.

  3. I want to learn a martial art that will teach me discipline.

  4. I want to stay in shape.

  5. I want to build confidence.

What ever your reason to train, traditional martial arts will surprise you.  It is a journey and not a destination.  Your ultimate goal should be to obtain a black belt but, it should not be ignored, the many lessons that can be learned along the way.  While we all learn the same techniques, there can be many different facets of personal development and it is a different growing experience for each individual.

What Does Training Consist of?

Below are lists that are taught and a brief description of what each list consists of.  The lists are organized so that one list of techniques builds off of the other.  The lists are associated with the different belt color ranks and everyone progresses at their own rate.

Weapons training lists are not included below but, are taught along with the other lists including, knives, sticks, samurai sword and combat tactics.

YAWARA

Yawara is a list of hand arts. Including escapes from various grabs. An attacker may grab the wrists, clothing, they may try to chock you, for example. This list also teaches joint locks of the hands and arms helping you to learn to control an attacker through pain compliance and/or body manipulation.

This can be one of the most fun lists to learn.

SHININ

There are also several other training lists of techniques that are taught.  Some are held secret only for those who have reached a higher black belt rank and others you have to be invited to learn by a Professor.
